Is it right to lie?

Honesty is the best policy.  There are several reasons not to lie.

1.  Lying brings about more lies. One lie can easily turn into ten more lies.  The more lies you tell, the harder it is to keep track of the lies and the more easily you can get caught in a lie.  You will look foolish and then even more so if you try to cover up a lie you get caught in.

2.  Lying breaks trust. Trust is a crucial part of any relationship, be it with your boyfriend, your parents, or your best friend.  Even one lie breaks that trust.  How would you feel if your boyfriend or best friend lied to you?  Sometimes the truth hurts, but it’s better to face the facts than to make them up.

3.  Lying hurts people. Telling a lie about a person defames them to anyone who hears that lie.  Surely you can think of a time when someone lied about you and it hurt.  Why would you want to do that to another person?  You may think right now that hurting another person is a good idea, but think about that logically.  Would you want anyone to hurt you?  Not even your worst enemy?  I didn’t think so.

Lies almost always hurt more than honesty.  Fess up!  You’re more likely to get in trouble for lying than for just repeating the facts.
