Is it right to fight?

The word fight can mean many different things to many different people.  Some people view fighting merely as the physical acts of violence.  Others consider yelling fighting.  Still others even refer to a discussion where people disagree as a fight.

People also have different rationales for their fights.  Some people are just trying to stand up for themselves.  Others are standing up for other people.  Still others fight just to fight.

In order to fully grasp the depth of this question and to decide for yourself whether or not you should fight, ask yourself the following questions:

1.  Why would I be fighting? You may feel justified if you are being wronged in some way.  You may prefer, however, to kill your opponent with kindness rather than fighting.

2.  Is this fight worth the consequences it may bring about? Physical violence can bring about really harsh consequences.  It can even send you to jail.  A verbal spat with a lover, however, will have much different consequences.  Think about both yourself and the person with whom you would be fighting when you decide if it is worth it.

3.  Can I handle it if i lose this fight? You may think that you will definitely win a fight, but you have to remember there is always a loser.  It could be you.  Even if you don’t expect it to be.  Make sure you can handle the embarrassment or shame associated with losing a fight.

Some options that can resolve conflict without fighting are killing the other person with kindness, turning the other cheek, or having a mature discussion about the matter at hand. You may need to remove yourself from the situation for a while to cool down before you tackle the matter over which you want to fight.
